LA Express Park Rate Changes for October 6, 2014

LA Express Park™, a program from the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), is updating parking meter rates and implementing a time-of-day pricing strategy on additional blocks in Downtown to improve parking management.

Wireless sensors continue tracking Downtown street parking activity around the clock.  Using these data, LADOT has planned adjustments beginning on Monday, October 6, 2014 to better match the price of parking to the demand on each block and each side of the street.  The overall goal of the project is to improve parking availability and reduce the time spent hunting for parking in order to cut down on traffic congestion and pollution in Downtown L.A.

On Monday, October 6th, LADOT will update parking meter rates throughout Downtown and extend time-of-day rates to 21 additional blocks.  Overall, the average hourly rate in the project area will increase from $1.77/hr. to $1.81. The average hourly rate will decrease at 5% of the spaces in the project area, increase at 13%, and the remaining 82% of spaces will have no rate change. After this rate change, nearly 3,900 spaces Downtown will have a rate of $0.50/hr at some point during the week and 2,000 spaces will be $0.50/hr. all week.

Parking meters with time-of-day rates have different hourly rates matching the parking demand in the morning, midday, evenings and weekends.  The parking meter or pay station screen will show the current rates that apply on the day and times you are parking.  And don’t worry; the meter will do the math for you if your parking spans different rate periods, so you will always know how much time you are buying.

The time-of-day meter rates are implemented
during the following four time periods:

  • Morning – Mon-Fri before 11 AM
  • Midday – Mon-Fri 11 AM to 4 PM
  • Evening – Mon-Fri after 4 PM
  • Saturday and Sunday (where applicable) – all hours

Rate maps showing the hourly rates during each period can be viewed below.
