Demand Based Pricing Implementation for August 2012

The third of the monthly rate and policy changes under the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation’s LA Express Park demonstration will take effect on Monday, August 6, 2012. Details and maps illustrating the areas where changes will be implemented will be posted here as they become available. Maps for July changes are currently displayed below.

The July 2nd changes were as follows:

  • Based on parking sensor data, rates decreased on 2% of the spaces in the demonstration area while 1% of spaces had rate increases. These parking rate changes were limited to a small number of meters that did not experience a rate change during the first month of the demonstration because more data was needed to understand their demand pattern.
  • Time limits were extended to two or four hours for approximately 37% of parking spaces in Downtown (see maps below). These areas did not have policy changes during the first month of the demonstration. Extended time limits provide visitors and customers in Downtown more time to conduct their business should they need it.

Maps illustrating the areas where changes have been implemented are available with this notice and are displayed below.

LA Express Park is a year long demonstration of demand based pricing of parking that utilizes wireless ground sensors, smart parking meters and pay stations, changeable message signs and a host of smart phone applications to help motorists find open parking spaces as well as adjust parking rates to demand. This strategy will help relieve congestion and benefit businesses through more parking space turnover and availability.
