LA Express Park™, the City of Los Angeles’ intelligent parking management program, is expanding to the Venice neighborhood. Using occupancy data gathered from wireless sensors, the City now has a better understanding of the parking demand in the area to adjust rates base on the parking utilization for each block. The overall goal of the program is to improve parking availability and reduce the amount of time motorists circle around looking for parking. This will reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the City.
Based on the demand trends, we are establishing different rates for two periods of the day: 8AM to 10AM and 10AM until 6PM. On average, the rates will go down in the morning and will go up for the rest of the day. The current average overall hourly rate in Venice area is $1.69 per hour. With the rate change, this will increase by $0.30 to $1.99 per hour. For the morning, the average rate is expected to decrease from $1.70 to $1.44 per hour. For the rest of the day, the average rate will increase from $1.69 to $2.13 per hour. These new rates will go into effect on July 22nd, 2019. Parking meters with time-of-day rates have different hourly rates matching the parking demand during each time interval. All parking meter and pay station screens will display the current rate and the maximum time allowed for parking for every meter space depending on the time-of-day. Meters and pay stations will be equipped to calculate the applicable rates for you if your parking period spans different rate periods.
Rate maps showing the hourly rates during each period can be downloaded from www.LAExpressPark.org. On the website, you will also find a real-time parking map and links to smartphone apps that help you find current rates and available parking.
